Day 1 – JFK & Boston

Day 1 has been everything that I hoped that it would be!  Up early (ie no sleep) to get to Dulles, met some folks before I even got on the flight, heard a moving cancer connection journey, and then lift off!

Once I got to JFK the scene was amazing, Jetters from all over the country, people that I’ve met on Facebook and Twitter, all together talking to one another and sharing schedules, tips, ideas, etc… The 29 Days Until 29 story was already familiar to some and it was an easy segway to start talking to people!

After the launch party, I boarded a plane for Boston, a city that I’ve never visited.  I spent the flight speaking with all the people around me and we had a GREAT time!  One lady works in public health, so we had a really interesting conversation.  Once we landed I found my way to my friend Eric’s place and he gave me a quick overview on the city.  I had no idea that there were over 40 institutions of higher learning in/around Boston!

After a quick break we headed over to the Harpoon Brewery.  Why?  Well you guys said that I had to visit the Sam Adams Brewery.  When I told Eric that he insisted that we head over to Harpoon instead.  Man am I glad that we did!  Harpoon Brewery is heavily involved with the Pan-Mass Challenge, a 192 mile bike ride for cancer.  So we spent some time talking about that, sharing our cancer connections, and making new, positive connections!

All in all it was a great day, with great people, positive connections, and positive experiences.  Tomorrow I’ll be out and about downtown a little more and heading to a game at Fenway, where I anticipate being able to talk to a TON of people!  Thanks again for everyone’s support, I’ll talk to you soon!

Yay! It’s so great to follow you on your way (after all the pre-trip build up!) I’m so delighted it’s turning out like you’d hoped. We better start planning your coming home/birthday party, huh?

And so it begins. Good luck, hoss. We’ll be ready when you get back, and save enough energy for one last party when you get here. Tell Shiroma I said what’s up!
