Much of today was spent traveling and at JFK airport. I got into the city around 5pm and immediately went to Ground Zero. Since I’m heading to LA at 7am, I’m not able to be there on the 11th. There isn’t much to see other than a construction site, but it still gave me chills.
September 11th created another negative connection that we all share. I’m not going to talk about cancer connections today, though I made 2 that I may share later. Today I am simply going to say 4 words and ask that you repeat after me.
We Will Never Forget.
I have to disagree with you on just a construction site. I visited yesterday and saw a lot in 5 hours. No disrespect but I went to honor those lost and reflect on my 38 flights. Even worse, San Bruno CA is where I grew up and to see that fire this week happen to firefighters and fellow citizens 3000 miles away on CNN is tough and two 6 hour flights in 24 hours is tough. Please read my post at http://30daysoftravel.com/2010/09/12/day-5-new-york-city/. Safe travels.
Perhaps yesterday when there were lots of people and a memorial, etc.. there may have been something to see, but on Friday it was a construction site. The guys at Engine/Truck 10 are great guys, esp. since they deal w/ the tourists all the time. I went by and spoke to them at 3am on the morning of the 11th before I headed back to JFK — too bad the amazing relief memorial was blocked from the street w/ all of the bunting on the scaffolding – it’s a great memorial to the 343 FFs who lost their lives.
